[Boatanchors] an off topic matter

Good evening gentlemen,
This is certainly an off topic question and I offer my appologies for asking it but I know that one of you will have the answer. Pethaps you would be kind enough to respond to me directly please to avoid the un-necessary congestion here.
The question is does anyone know the specification of the thread that fixes a  standard camera to a tripod etc. and more impoortantly, who makes the taps and dies that will cut such a thread.
