[Boatanchors] Dampp Chaser

From aging, but recent memory, the Dampp Chaser in my SX-101A is a
metal enclosed unit clamped or riveted to the chassis - not just a stock
resistor. Aren't some resistors built that way to use the chassis as a
heat sink? Does my Ranger have one?
They may have found that any old hot resistor would do the job.
Mine used to be not much better than an SX-100, stability-wise, but
after replacing the 12BY7 yet again, it has really locked down. After
it's been on for a few minutes it's really stable.
I used to wonder what good the "Dampp Chaser" and always-on filament in
the 12BY7 did (other than using up 12BY's), but now I'm a believer. It
actually didn't settle down until it had been plugged in for a couple of
days after the last osc. tube.
