[Boatanchors] Receiver muting

I'm pairing up some transmitters with the Hammarlund series of receivers like the HQ 145 and HQ 170.
Hammarlund never included any kind of "muting" provision in their receivers, other than the receive/send rotary switch
on the panel. This means that it becomes a two step procedure to go from transmit to receive. Put the receiver switch into
the "send" position and then throw the plate or transmit switch on the transmitter to activate the antenna relay, then
vice versa when going to receive.

I'm an old timer ham of almost 40 years, but I am interested in what some of you other old timers did back then.
Or, did you just do the old two step dance like I did when I was a Novice?
