It's not really useless since you can still use the "Search the Archives"
function, which is free, to find all the issues that cover some
particular interest. Likewise, you still can view the first 10 pages of a
particular CQ Magazine which includes the Table of Contents to view more
specific details.

Interesting info on the receiver, but obviously National felt comfortable
with NC-2-40 model nomenclature since besides the NC-2-40 "handle", they
had the NC-2-40C, NC-2-40CR, NC-2-40CS, NC-2-40CSR, NC-2-40D, NC-2-40DR,
NC-2-40DT, and NC-2-40S which roughly spanned the years 1943 through
1949. Then there were also the rebranded NC-100XA's as NC-1-39 and
NC-1-39S.
