Hi Greg,
I think they're a fine receiver. The Galaxy model R-530 has gold trim,
and when the company was acquired by HyGain, they changed the styling a
bit and went to the blue trim and made it the R-1530. Double
conversion with coverage from 100 khz to 30mhz, if you're interested in
LF and it has (rare at the time) 1kc dial readout. I'm not aware of
any bugs but be advised it's a Wadley loop synthesizer which are a
special breed. I'll go out on a limb here and say that I think this is
the only Wadley loop receiver to be designed and built by a US Manufacturer
Very good quality SSB audio, can't comment on AM due to lack of a proper
AM filter. The preselector must be peaked as you tune across the band,
same as all Wadley loop receivers.
There is provision for four IF filters, which have a center frequency of
9mhz. Getting one with a complete set would be sweet - I'd like to just
find a 6khz AM filter for mine. And if anyone wants to swap their blue
speaker for my gold one, let me know ;-)
From a quality standpoint I'd put it right up there with the Drake R-7
and others of that era. A very rare receiver and a good one.
