I picked up a DA-515/U DL at a hamfest.....

The designation DA-515 does NOT make ANY sense in military nomenclature.

Sure it does. My KWT-6 has a DL with nomenclature DA-218/U.

Search
 "DA-" "dummy load"
 in Google and there are lots of DA-xx/U hits.

I've always understood the DA prefix to mean Dummy Antenna.
