This is quite acceptable in tight places.  The only thing to remember, 
and not addressed in the webpage is that the existing wire leads need to 
VERY CLEAN to take solder and the wound wire leads need to be tight on 
the existing leads.  Clinch them with a pair of needle-nosed pliers. 
The mechanical connection is important.  It needs to me good or the 
electrical connection will probably be nonexistent, and you'll chasing 
an open circuit, which is very time consuming
