[Boatanchors] Cleaning Ceramic Trimmers

Hi JT,
I think the same question came up recently on another list, but the
answer's about the same - don't do anything. The "tarnish" is just that,
oxidation on silver plated components. Silver oxide is conductive and
doesn't need to be cleaned of for the component to work, and cleaning could
put some chemical, etc., in there to couse more real corrosion/problems. IF
the ceramic portion is dirty, then just use soap & water, then rinse well
with distilled water.
It's a good buyers ploy at a fleamarket/fest if there seller has a box
of cruddy looking old connectors, etc. Juat point out how dirty they are,
if he doesn't know better, you might get a real bargain ;-) Of course the
late model oriental sourced stuff is really just plain cruddy and not silver
plated.
