Tin whiskers are a real issue, maybe not for consumer crap that has a design
life of a year or two (think iPods) but certainly for test gear.

As to plumbers using silver solder, I redid my entire house using it about 20
years ago during a remodel. It is a bit harder to use, but works just fine.
And no lead in the water as a plus.
