All Hams are welcome. Even if you are using modern gear that does not glow
in the dark without first being sprayed with a light emitting coat of Radium
isotope paint! Even if it is not a "real radio", such as Hallicrafters!
(chuckle) If it is modern with literature in a foreign tongue and a
tonguematically sealed packet of rice to grow in your flower bed, join us!
All makes and models and flavors of equipment is welcome, as after all, what
we are holding this Special Event for is to commemorate the 110th
anniversary of Bill Halligan's birthday! December 8, 1898. So for Sunday, we
are even going to allow the Collins Radio Association to join us! (Sorry Doc
Dave, you know I love you! I'm still regretting the loss of my absolutely
perfect R-390a that the Master Chuck Ripple rebuilt. ) Besides I had a crush
on a Collins once, except her first name was Sherry!

The purpose is to pay tribute to William Halligan, Sr. who founded the
Hallicrafters Radio Company. In all actuality, Bill Halligan contributed
much more to America, and radio in general, then just Ham radio equipment.
It was his 'own' HT-4 leased from Bill by the FBI that was moved to the
Hawaiian island of Oahu that contacted the Pentagon informing them that
Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor. That HT-4 was the "only" transmitter that
survived that was capable of contacting the mainland.

Bill and his team of brilliant engineers created the RIT, (receiver
incrimental tuning) now common to almost all radios, general coverage or
communications. They also came up with the first Dual Diversity receiver,
the DD#1, the Radar countermeasures for the B-52 aircraft, xtal filtering
for receivers and much more. Suffice it to say, that we all owe big Bill
some thanks.

We had a great time today on 40 meters, N4KNO, Ed on AM, and yours truly on
LSB. Please take a few minutes out tomorrow and join us to say "Hey! Special
Event Dudes" and wish Bill Halligan, Sr. a Happy Halli-Day.

There is a 'W9WZE' QSL available. Get the mailing address from qrz.com Send
your card along with a ready to use address label and $.42 stamp for USA
stations. If international, please contact me direct by e-mail for the
airmail postage cost.

If you would like to warm up the low hanging clouds with some Amplitude
Modulation, AKA AM, then ring Mr. Ed's chimes. (Wasn't there a TV show about
a talking Mule with that name last century?). N4KNO will be using the
"W9WZE" Halligan's Hallicrafters callsign tomorrow. He will be on Sunday
morning from 9:00 - 11:00 AM CST, or 10:00 - 12:00 AM EST. The frequency
will be 7.290 MHZ AM +/-. Ed is located in the Panhandle part of Florida for
those with directional antennas.

W8DBF, yours truly, will also be using the call of "W9WZE Halligan's
Hallicrafters". I will be operating on 20 meters from 10:30 AM until 5:30 PM
EST, or 1530 - 2230 UTC. Heads up! The Vintage SSB Net starts at 3:00 PM
EST, or 2000 UTC, so I will be changing frequencies then! I will be moving
to 14.315 MHZ usb +/-, so listen for me there from 3:00 - 5:30 PM EST, or
2000 - 2230 UTC.

If "ANY" of you would like to help out on 15 meters or CW (any frequency) or
another band, your choice of mode, just let me know and go for it!

If "any" of you artistically talented Hams would be willing to design a
special QSL card or certificate, it would sure be appreciated! It would be
really terrific to make this special "Happy Halli-Day" event more special by
having a unique card or certificate to send all who participate. All costs
for making it will be paid. So if you would get creative and make one
happen, I am confident everyone would be most grateful to you. Yes, you may
put your name and callsign on it, as you designed it and are entitled to the
credit for having done so.

I will be operating at one third the normal power you are used to on Sunday,
as my Ameritron AL-82a is in need of repairs. I tried for a week to get ther
healed locally without finding anyone willing or able. I also was not
successful in leasing a more powerful amplifier then the small one I have
for this weekend. So listen up, I will be out there! If I hear you, I will
respond. Just keep calling and one way or the other, you will be recognized
by myself or a relay station.

My thanks on behalf of William Halligan, Sr. to all of you who participated
today. As well as to all of you who tried, but got buried by the 1702 UTC
thunderous barrage of international short-wave stations that suddenly
galloped onto the frequencies like a herd of wild prairie ponies being
pursued by biologically altered Locusts with a taste for Horse on the hoof!

Hear you tomorrow! And thanks for caring and participating in this thanks to
a great man for what he did for all of us.
