Most 01A tubes have a pin on the side for use in those sockets that do not have holes. Those sockets were normally used with the "short pin" versions. These sockets require that the tube be inserted into the socket and then rotated which then makes the contact with the flat plates on the socket. This allows the "long pin" version tubes to be used in the same sockets as the "short pin" versions. Original 01 tubes may, or may not, have this pin.

All the 01 types are the same as long as you know if the short or long pin variety is used.That is the difference between UY and UX designations with UY being the short.
