When assembling any cable and connector always make sure the connection
side of the connectors are clean leave the actual contacts of the connector
alone. Always tin your wire first using a little extra rosin(source below).
If the wire is quite old then carefully scrape and clean as many strands as
possible using a single edge razor blade, Remember if the wire doesn't tin
outside the connector it sure isn't going to make a good solder connection
inside the connector. Tin the inside of the connector also. If the wire is
too big after tinning then sand it down slightly. But always tin the wire. I
also use a emery board to clean the strands.
Put a very very small amount of extra rosin inside the wire side of the
connector before soldering.
A quick source of extra rosin flux is good ole Rad Shack, stock number
64-022 or order from any supplier.
If you do go to Rad Shack pick up some of the magic tip cleaner stock 64-020
or order from any supplier. Remember do not inhale.
That's about all I know about shrimp.
