The book should say INPUT power and not output power!

The Globe Scout 65 is rated at a maximum of 65 watts
INPUT on CW and 55 watts INPUT on phone. The output
power will vary between around 30 to 35 watts output
on CW on 160 meters and around 20 to 25 watts output
on 10 meters. Phone operation will be about 10 watts
less output.

When the Globe Scout 65 was new the FCC regulations
stated input power and not output power like today.

Frankly, 25 watts is pretty reasonable. To get that
much output he is going to be running more than 50 mA.
Is he reading the correct scale on the meter? Also,
has the meter shunt changed value (a very common
happening).

I have a friend whoe has a Globe Scout 65. He and I
have been disciussing something that seems to be a
problem. The Globe scout that he has he bought from
someone else. The transformer was changed as the
original one went south . Another was installed. The
one that is in there developes about 1000 volts ac
across it . When the rig is tuned up into a 50 ohm
load he can only draw bout 50mils of plate current and
only put out about 25 watts. The book he has says he
should get around 50/60 watts out . I suggested that
maybe the trans former that was replaced was wrong one
voltage wise and maybe needed to be a bit larger one.
Does anyone out there have any info that can help in
this cituation.
