Gene,

I'm not sure what yours looks like - whether it's multi-conductor or not 
- but there are places that sell replacement cloth covered wire for 
restoring antique radios.  The original stuff is unsafe but the 
replacements have an inner modern insulator hidden beneath an authentic 
looking outer layer.
