Ok, here is one for the books...
Johnson Ranger 1, chirps on 40m when out of the cabnet
when inside, only a very "slight" frequency "chirp" is
heard....most noticably when listening to 20m, while
transmitting on 40m...
Here is the background:
had the problem for 5 years, just appeared once...never went away!
Replaced:
ALL tubes
R3 (18K)
installed 150 v zener to replace OA2
replaced the following caps: C10, C12, C22, C29, C35,
C32, C39A C39B, C38 A & B, C90 A & B, C 89, C77, C78, C42,C43,C44,C45
L8 and L9
This rig work FB on 160m, 80m, 20m, 15m, & 10m!
Absolutely NO chirp on any band other then 40m...
NOTE:
ON 40M, THE EXCITER TUNING IS ON 75 RATHER THAN 43 AS
STATED IN THE MANUAL!
ALL OTHER TUNING (EXCITER & FINAL) IS CORRECT FOR OTHER BANDS
All currents for each stage is correct.
If plate cap is removed from the 6146, the chirp is not
noticable...
Any thoughts?
