Hi Joe,
I just finished two DX-100's, and while I haven't seen your exact
problem I did encounter a few problems and the number 1 and 2 solutions
centered about poor grounds (oxidation) and cold-solder joints. I
wouldn't rule out one of the mica caps in the VFO also. I was hesitant
at first to get into the VFO, but found that removing it wasn't all
that difficult and by checking the wiring closely I headed off at least
one or two "future" problems. And at least one cold solder joint was
inside the VFO.
I've been most impressed with the DX-100 and when completely checked
out they are very stable rigs. I have one on AM now and as a result of
some careful acquisitions of parts I have a complete DX-100 "KIT" that
I will build this winter. I haven't built a Heathkit in years, so this
will be fun.
Good luck with yours.

Subject: [Boatanchors] DX 100
I recently aquired several DX 100's to refurb. I have run into
several strange
problems most of which I couold take care of. One though is really
confusing and
I was wondering if anyone out ther has seen this before and maybe could
give me
a bit of advice. The VFO is rock solid on 40-10 meters. On 160 and 80
is is
unstable. It shifts several cycles at odd intervals. It can be heard
when you
key the vfo by itself. Sounds like the supply voltage is changing but
like I
said before the vfo is rock solid stable on 40 and above. That might
seem to
eliminate the supply voltage?? Would anyone out there have any Idea
what
could be the problem or have a few places for me to look without having
to
dismantle the VFO? Any help would be greatly appriciated.
