For all the bitching and shootouts at the hamfests out here, something
happened at the last one that might amuse you.
What's a shootout? It's when two guys spot a dirt cheap collectable at
exactly the same time and an argument errupts.
Myself and another guy spotted an Eldico SSB 100mil transmitter on a tail
gate at exactly the same moment and both of us said in chorus: " how much?"
The seller said" I dunno, make me an offer" I whipped out the contents of my
wallet and put $15 in the seller's hand and said "OK?" the seller took it,
then the other guy cried foul ball and kept his hand on the transmitter. Now
all three of us are standing around the Eldico wonder what the hell to do
next and I told the other guy to pull his wallet out and let the seller take
the top offer. The seller agreed and the other guy whipped out a $20 bill. I
released my hand on the tranmitter and all three of us started laughing.
Later I stopped by to look at his new transmitter and we both agreed that it
was a happy ending to a crappy situation.
I did out snoozle him on a Collins 180 tuner though.
God, I love hamfests!
