[Boatanchors] Johnson Valiant II VFO

All: I have several questions about the Valiant II VFO, inspired by the
exchange on the 122 VFO a bit earlier. I've never gotten the pull out of
this VFO; that won't help much if I want to run the SSB adapter with it.:

1. Is there a good procedure for pulling the Valiant II VFO out of the case?
I seem to recall some special concern about the coupling to the dial, and
fragile unobtainium parts.

2. As I adjust the keyer circuit with the pot in the back of the rig, I have
listened to the VFO note. I seem to recall that in a Valiant II the VFO
simply goes from oscillating to quiescent without a lot of change in
frequency (based on adjusting one some 36 or so years ago), but the one I
have pulls horrendously just before it stops oscillating. Is there anyone
who can tell me how the VFO should behave just before it stops oscillating
when adjusting the keyer circuit? I'm thinking that the VFO is sensitive to
changes in the bias voltage in the transmitter, much more so than it should
be.

3. Assuming this IS abnormal, does anyone have suggestions on what's going
on in there?

4. Finally, has anyone documented the voltages to be found inside the VFO
case? The terminal strip voltages don't help a lot...

Thanks,
Dave WB4FUR
