Eugene,
First of all, good luck on your exam!
If you check off the box on the VEC605 form, you will receive a new
2x2 call in the form of Axnyz and you being in the 2nd district, will
probably receive AB2WK or later depending on whether anybody gets one
before you. Calls such as W2xx, N2xx or K2xx (also known as 1x2 calls)
are very rare and are pounced upon when they become available. You take
a gamble by requesting an expired 1x2 call, but sometimes it pays off! I
was lucky to get mine - but my circumstances were not the norm.
If you want to go for a vanity call sign and wanted to see what was
available, you should try: www.radioqth.net
If you want more info on how to choose a call sign, try:
www.k8zt.com/vanity_callsign.htm
I am not affiliated with either of these sites except for
information gathering and what I had run across in my research.
Take care, 73 and God bless you and yours,
-John W2JM
