[Boatanchors] Tube Testers

Hi, group:

Speaking of tube testers, a ham friend of mine, who worked for the telephone company years ago, was told to throw away several tube testers.

They didn't tell him where to throw them, so he (gently) threw them in the back of his truck.

He gave one of them to me.

It seems to work well, and I've never encountered a tube I couldn't test, although I may well live in a small world.

It does test 807 and 6146!

I've often wondered where it stands compared to other tube testers.

It's basically a Cardmatic, made for Western Electric. Quite a large and heavy unit. I don't think it could be called portable; moveable, perhaps.

It came with another case containing three rows of punch-cards. These cards are specific for the tube to be tested. There's a slot in the tester where the card is inserted. When I do that, there is quite a wham as the card is captured.

It also came with several cards that are intended for calibratiion.

Sound familiar to anyone? How does it stack up?
