[Boatanchors] LED's instead of lamps in boatanchors???

I recently needed a new lamp for my Siemens E311 receiver. I began to
look for LED versions, and discovered that lots of automotive bulbs are
being replaced with aftermarket LED versions (for panel lamps etc). The
E311 begin of German origin, however, made it tough to find in the US.
The bulb base is BA7s which is bayonet but with small ridges instead of
little pins to hold it in place. Well, after much searching I found a
12v version instead of 6v but it works. It's a little dim, but it works.
No flicker and it hasn't burned up yet. After all, there is current
limiting in it already, and being a diode it does automatically rectify
the AC going to it, as long as the PIV isn't exceeded.
I did find one fellow who said he would "make me" a 6v version. I'm sure
it wont be cheap, but I might buy a whole bunch for some other friends
who have this same radio. But our American radios probably have much
more common bulb bases and I bet they could be found.
I bet if a whole bunch of BA enthusiasts got together and made a list of
type and qty of bulbs we use, an order could be placed to get them at a
much discounted rate (no, I am not volunteering to do it!)

Any of you guys use super bright LED's instead of incandescent lamps in
your boatanchors? I changed them in a radio once and they look
excellent. I had to frost them with 220 grit sandpaper to get the light
to scatter for a warmer glow. That should be the last time I ever have
to change the lamps (LED's).
Reading that guys post about his Azden got me thinking about the LED's
again...
