[Boatanchors] WHERE HAVE ALL THE HELPERS GONE?

Tim (and all)

Before you point the finger of blame at the management, keep this in mind.

These lists can operate in one of two ways.

A. All replies to list posts are sent to the list and 'not' to the actual
human sender.

B. All replies are sent to the human sender by default, unless the sender
uses the function to send the reply to both the list and the human sender.

There are close to six hundred list subscribers Tim. Of these, about 20%
post, on or off list. The other 80% are the silent majority. Pretty much the
rule on all of the 550+ QTH.NET lists.

I would prefer that all replies to list posts appear on the list by default.
Remember! The person responding can send his/her reply privately by simply
typing in that person's e-mail address! When we tried this on the list, many
complaints were received. So the list was returned to its normal status of
reply to human sender.

However, the sender can use CTRL + SHIFT + R and reply to both the list and
the Human sender. (This is with Outlook Express, as the controls may vary
with different mail client programs!). Hence either private or public
replies are possible regardless of the mail lists default settings! It is up
to the sender to make that decision Tim.

If, and when, the responding majority of subscribers indicates that they
want the list default to be set for all of their replies to go to both the
list and the human posting the question, this list will be so configured.
However, as stated, three previous trials failed.
