There are various devices, such as the MFJ-259B that will measure the
impedance directly.
Or, if you prefer boatanchors, the HP 250B is an excellent unit.
They have an advantage over the 1606 in that they have both the oscillator
and the detector built-in and read out R+jX directly.
The MFJ-259B is the easiest, since it just pops up R+jX right on the LED
display. No bridge to fiddle with.
