Subject: Balun Testing
How does one test a 4:1 balun to see if it is still perfect? My friend
suspects that the balun has gone bad since his SWR has risen. I have a
duplicate here and the resistances check out, that is, there is continuity
on the coax connector and the other end where one connects the antenna. He
told me that he may have "smoked" the unit since he has put 1500
watts on the unit although it is rated for 1500 watts on CW and SSB, which
means that it is rated for intermittent service at that wattage.
The balun is one made by Radio Works, with two wires at one end and a
coaxial fitting at the other end.
Thanks
