Your UPS is sized to charge the specified cells
at a certain rate over a certain time, it may not
fully charge a larger battery and certainly will take
longer.
The other concern is heat, both on the charging and
inverter sides.
Again, you are asking the circuitry to run longer
than designed so it is going to heat up.
I am guessing this could be more of an issue on
the inverter side where instead of 5-15 minutes
it may run 20-45 minutes -- the inverter circuitry
may cop a real attitude. :-)
There are UPS-type devices from commercial apps
that are designed to support internal plus external
batteries, and some pretty large capacity external
batteries.
They are available surplus but can get a little
pricey, some have a better reliability record than
others, and tend to get snapped up quickly.
