To add to the confusion!

My Harvey-Wells transmitter is marked as a TBS-50 (no
A, B, C, or D) yet is AM and CW (has a pair of 6L6
tubes in the modulator). The front panel paint scheme
is a dark gray hammertone and the cabinet is a light
gray wrinkle.

According to info in Gene Rippen's "Tube Type
Transmitter Guide", there were several models of the
TBS-50.

The first, just "TBS Bandmaster", 2nd "TBS-50, (about
1948) CW only, 807 final, 30-40w input", 3rd "TBS-50A
(about 1948) CW & Phone version. 40 to 50 watts input
on phone (2) 6L6's p-p mod., carbon mic.", 4th
"TBS-50B (about 1952) CW only", 5th "Bandmaster Senior
TBS-50C (about 1952) CW & phone", 6th Bandmaster
Deluxe TBS-50D (about 1952), 3-tube preamp" audio
stage. hope that will help you determine what you
have. He doesn't mention paint schemes.
