Hi Fellows,

Happy Hollidays to all!
I am in need of some old time electrician's tape - the type that had a cloth
base,
not plastic like modern rolls of tape.
If anyone has any from many, many years back please let me have some, not
necessarily a whole roll but maybe 10 or 12 inches. A whole roll would be
nice!
Thanks & take care,

Ken N5CM

Hi Ken,

Do you need the vulcanised rubber/cloth tape (black) or unvulcanised
(brown)? Haven't seen the black type for a while but the unvulcanised is
still used a lot in the marine seismic survey business for hydrophone
repairs, etc. and sells under the name "Bulldog Tape" and is also known as
"Friction Tape". I believe that production of both types stopped some years
ago in the US due to concerns over the solvent used to dissolve the rubber
that the cloth backing is impregnated with but production continues
elsewhere, probably in the Third World. If Bulldog is what you need I can
certainly get hold of 2" wide part rolls. I'm told that the black rubber
comes from dissolved car tyres and possibly needs a different (and more
dangerous) solvent.
