Daven attenuators very popular in broadcasting, professional
audio and lab work.  Most are very precisely built.

Alas they have given way to photo optic coupled circuits
that have no mechanical contacts with the controlled circuit
and mostly are now the "slider" type.

Broadcasters used mostly 600ohm type.
