A mixture of half Formula 409 and half household
ammonia works well. However, you really need to use
this outdoors and so a very small area of the chassis
at a time. Apply the mixture with a small paint brush
and then wipe the area with a paper towel. Make sure
and keep it away from things like i.f. cans.

The National NC-2-40DT in the following URL had the
chassis cleaned with this mixture.

Other people use different things besides this mixture
so there are definitely more ways to accomplish the
same thing.

I was given two heathkit dx60's and 1 hg10 vfo and was
wOndering what one uses to clean the chassis. The
front panel and knobs are very good shape as also the
cover but the chassis has a lot oF dirt and crud on
them. so my question is what do most of you use to
clean up the metal chassis before i restore them.
