The MOST important question that WE have yet to receive an answer for:

What VOLTAGE is the meter in AND what parameters does the MAIN
transformer have?

***** It is a CURRENT operated device which does not have a Voltage
associated with it.What on earth are you on about, just what is a "main
transformer"?

>I did NOT say use a RECTIFIER. I am promoting a simple shunt for the 5
  Amp AC ammeter.

****Simple shunts are for simple minds otherwise the supply companies of the
world would have used them since day one. They don't! They use current
transformers!

>1) I SERIOUSLY doubt that the meter movement has a 5Amp meter coil.

Therefore, it MOST likely already has a shunt.

**** You really haven't got a clue!
The 5 Amp meter in question will almost certainly be a moving iron type of
instrument,it WILL have a 5 Amp coil!

>2) A new shunt to allow it to read 75 IS what I am suggesting.

**** Not feasible for reasons previously given.

Please go and read a book about AC metering, you may learn something and stop
digging your hole even deeper.
