I have a meter that reads 75 amps full scale AC. On the face the meter reads
full scale = 5 amps . How do I figure the proper shunt for this meter?
Thanks,
Ed
***Ed,if I understand you correctly,you don't use a shunt,you need a 75 to 5
Amp current transformer, available at most electrical supply houses. If a 75/5
is not available, use a 150/5 with two turns of cable through the primary.
A word of warning,do NOT run the current transformer without its burden(in
this case, your meter) connected. An unburdened current transformer will try
to "generate" an extremely high Voltage which usually breaks down the CT
insulation.
