[Boatanchors] bulkhead panel?

I just measured my patch panel and the holes for the SO 239 type bulkhead s
are 9/16" (1.7 cm) diameter and for the BNC bulkheads 11/16' (1.4 cm).
My 2 panels are aluminum rack panels 3.5 inches wide. Anodizing will
insulate the panel surface and you will have to make sure the bulkheads are
well grounded. Mine are unpainted on the back side and have been good for
over 30 years in the shack. I have two 1" braid straps from opposite ends to
the common ground buss to the outside ground bar. I also installed
"Blitzbug" static suppressors on the incoming antenna coaxes.
I had an antenna pass-thru panel in the window that was 3/4" exterior
plywood with aluminum plates front and back made from a door kick panel.
That worked well for about 5 years. in this house i installed a plastic 4"
pipe thru the wall with a "L" on the outside to keep rain out and all the
coaxes come in thru that. I have separate insulated feed-thrus for the 450
ladderline.

Healthfully yours,
                          Don W4BWS

Subject: [Boatanchors] bulkhead panel?

Hello all,

I am looking to make a 1U panel for my rack. The panel will have 8 holes
drilled to accommodate 8 SO-239 bulkhead connectors. The idea here is to
have antenna feedlines come into this bulkhead where the shields can all tie
together.

Question is: Can anyone confirm that if I drill a hole 0.625" in diameter
that will suffice for common so-239 threaded bulkhead (barrel) connectors?
Also, I was going to make the panel out of aluminum. Should I get it
anodized? Whats the difference? Oxidation? This will live in my shack. Cost
difference is something like $2.

Also, in case I want to have some of the holes drilled for "N" bulkheads
(haven't decided) does anyone know what the right diameter would be?

thanks!
Eugene
