Hi Steve:

I think checking out the generator before putting it in line with the 
Valiant would pay dividens.
If it's a phasing type with a band switch then all you have to do is put a 
signal generator into it on the freq you want to output ssb. You should get 
a bit of ssb out of it and that's enough to try it on the Valiant.
The Valiant needs to output it's driver to the generator and the generator 
outputs to the PA. Also, you have to re-bias the PA to SSB operation instead 
of class C.
That's it in a nutshell.  Did a couple of Heathkit generators  SB 10? (they 
work OK and the ssb is the soft phasing style) this way. The Heathkit manual 
for their old generator has beacoup info on how to ssb the iron queens with 
their phasing generator.
