I also worked for a place called Electronic Parts Co., but it was in Denver, 
CO. (Don't think there was any connection). I was there 11 years and 
experienced much of the same as Bob.
We also had a tube tester and we all thought that it was one of the greatest 
things for our tube business. The tube checker could not simulate the same 
operation as the equipment that the tube was in.
I also had a part time repair business and I had a very large tube caddy 
(Come to think of it, I still have it after 35 years!) and would never check 
tubes in the customer's home unless they asked me to do so.
