History aside, writing in all caps in an email is by custom, accepted email
etiquette and common usage, considered to be shouting. At the very least
it's harder to read. The use of a word or two in all caps can be done for
emphasis (even that may be misinterpreted), and things normally capitalized
such as ROTFLOL (which is what I'm doing right now). Google "email
etiquette" and you will find many references to the point.
It's hard enough in text communications to convey the "tone" in which
comments are made. Text in all caps isn't going to be seen by most people
as a simple reversion to the days when men wore green eyeshades and mills
had only capital letters :-)
