The only other receiver to surpass the '400 in the 'less bang for the
buck' category is the SX-88, IMHO. Both interesting receivers, but you
can get far more for much less with equally old-vintage and better
quality examples like the R-390 family and others.
I still hope to make Dayton some year soon, for the experience much
more than any potential 'collector opportunities'. 'Fests are really
great for seeing old friends and meeting folks you've talked with over
the years but never met. Far more social and enjoyable than using the
'net.
And beating the rain is always a plus. Hosstraders hamfest comes to
mind, sometimes we get lucky for the spring and fall meets, other
times we get soggy both times. It's still fun.
