[Boatanchors] Cleaning copper plated chassis?

Brasso is really quite abrasive and I suspect you might not like the 
result when used on a plating. I suggest you try
Tarnex first  and be sure you clean it after as it leaves salts. Not 
abrasive at all. True Value handles it.

Now that you brought this up - I've been wondering about the plating 
process either copper or brass.
Can anyone advise on this?  Possible for a DIY?
