[Boatanchors] Cleaning copper plated chassis?

Hi,

A short time back I acquired a pair of National NC-188 receivers, one is
nicer than the other. My intent is to partly tear both down, then
reassemble using the nicest dial, knobs, cabinet etc on one to make one
"nice" set, then restore the other one the best I can. AFTER the cleanup I
will replace the filter caps, check tubes etc.

Anyway, National tended to copper plate their steel chassis, even my entry
level NC-Sixty is copper plated. Both NC-188 chassis could use a good
cleaning. The nicer "unit" has some areas of 'green' on them but is
otherwise in pretty good condition. The other unit has much more copper
discoloration and will require more work.

I DON'T want to use an abrasive as it would probably remove most of the
remaining copper or else make "shiny swirls", neither of which I want.

Replating the chassis is out of the question because of the cost involved.
I'm thinking of buying a can of "Brasso" like we used in the military (USAF)
and doing the best I can with that. Anybody see anything wrong with that
idea?? Better ideas?
