HI there, I ran breakdown tests on RG8 U and associated connectors.
The 5 to 600 volt maybe should read 5to 6 K volts. The average cable
breakdown was about 38 kv dc.(this was at 6800 ft altitude.) I did not
run more than 5kv with the connectors on the cable. I usually put some
slicone insulating compound in the connectors when mating them, do it
right and the need for co-ax seal goes away.
It is possible that some test lab was running tests with high current in
the cable.
Severe heating of the dielecric could possibly cause problems.
One could take the test results at high altitudes where corona can be
observed in the 6 to 800 volt range -- 80k ft amsl?
