[Boatanchors] Re-doing panels

The lettering is generally "silk screened" which
involves making a "screen" using a photographic
process. The screen is then put in a frame and the
paint is placed on the screen. The paint is then
forced through the screen onto the panel.

Having a screen made can run from like $15 or $20 to
like $75 depending on who makes it, the size, etc.

Although screens can be used over and over it is
usually best to do at least several panels at a time.
You can clean the screen but you do have to be VERY
careful not to damage it.

Getting the photo "master" can run the "gamut" in
terms of difficulty. Some are very easy to do,
especially when the artwork is done on the computer.
Others, especially when things like company logos are
concerned, special type fonts, etc., can be really
difficult to do.

how is the lettering done on a panel when the panel is
not etched and painted? Do you use decals of some
sort?
