Hi Drew,
I don't think you have what was installed by the factory. I've owned
some 15 +- SP-600's, incl. -JX-17's, worked on many others, and have
never seen an AC input connection like you describe. The one in the
picture I ref'd is typical, even tho' it had a replacement 3-wire cord.
The orig. was a 2-wire cord thru a strain relief. That hole was enlarged
slightly for a different strain relief & cord.
Yours may have been done by a military shop, sounds like it was done
properly, but for an old 2-wire setup. The IEC (IERC?) setup would be a
good way to go, I've done that on R-390's, probably to the horror of a few
purists (but made it reversible for them), and it gives a nice removable
cord if/when you want to move/haul it around.
Whatever you do, you won't be destroying any "original" parts. Just
make it to suit yourself.
