You and me both, Al. Unless the receiver was modified at some point to
have a separate chassis-mounted socket for a removable cord, it
doesn't make sense. As your photo shows, there are ample places to
attach the ground wire from the cord inside the rear underside. Along
with the point you chose, there are several spots under those bathtub
caps.
I think getting the receiver out of the rack, onto the bench, and
getting my tools together took longer than installing the cord.
If the receiver has a specific connector for a removable power cord
(like the locking quarter-twist type), it can be substituted for a
3-wire version, usually using the center pin for ground.
In the end, Hank is right. Safety should always take precedence over
aesthetics. Dead is forever.
