[Boatanchors] cleaning ceramic?

If you are talking about switches that have been removed from the 
equipment, I would consider putting them in the dishwasher for a cycle 
or two....  Actually, I would probably try this hair-brained scheme on a 
spare switch, broken switch, etc. before I placed my irreplaceable, 
unobtanium switch in the little basket in the dishwasher!  After 
washing, I would put a drop of oil on the shaft bearing and put a drop 
of DeOxIt on the contacts.  Theoretically, (  :-)     ) you should have 
a nice as new switch.  Filing and Dremeling will only make things worse 
by placing additional unwanted deposits on the ceramic.
