[Boatanchors] Stuff

Or maybe something is selling low for a reason. I saw what I thought was a
great deal at Dayton. A Brand New Weller 8200 Gun with a pencil iron for $8.
Snapped one up, only to find out, on closer inspection, both were 240 volt
(with 120 volt plugs). I bet I could have negotiated that price up! I feel
if someone puts a price on something, I assume that is a price he is happy
with. But, if I am making an offer on something without a price, I offer
what its worth TO ME. Sometimes its below market value. But I do get a kick
out of those that when you when you ask how much, they say make an offer,
when you do, they get irate and accuse me of trying to rip them off.
Geeze--put a price on it or just say not enough and don't sell it to me.
Never had anyone tell me my offer was way too high then offer it to me for
$50 less than what I offered.--Mike, WV2ZOW

I had the same experience, also with a piece of
Collins gear.

I did the research and informed the seller and
he still insisted on selling it for his low
asking price.

In another case I negotiated a price midway between
the original uninformed low price and an informed
high price.

My budget was not seriously harmed and neither
was my integrity.

I learned this from other Hams of sound character
on several occasions over several decades -- dealing
fairly with one another is one of the special things
about the Amateur Radio family.
