[Boatanchors] And The Caisons keep Rolling along

This subject has been around the world almost as many times as the space
shuttle and each of us has had problems with different shippers. With that
said, I must agree with Ray, UPS has a higher incidence of damaging packages
for me than anyone I have used.

Right now DHL is really trying to compete in the market and is much more
customer friendly than UPS and their on-site pick up policies are more
liberal . As one who has watched UPS at work at one of their interchange
terminals, I will not use them even if I must pay a bit more for an
alternative. Not because they damaged a package, but because I hve seen
their handling practices. They are not good for heavier items. The vast
majority arrive at their destination in good condition, but a small minority
are really trashed and the heavy packages usually are the ones that are.
Not only that, but their reimbursement for damages is nearly impossible.
Their response is always "It wasn't packed to our standards". It is hard to
pack to the standards Ray described unless you want to invest an amount of
money in packaging that would purchase a compact car.
