That is a lot more than I wanted to know about the
subject, but it is entertaining.
I think we all need to understand that the bay is
not the only place where we can experience 'deals'
that are less than wonderful.
The cause of that may not have anything at all to
do with the bay ( or any other means of trade ),
it may be more a result of seeking the 'deal'.
You will nearly always get what you pay for and
sometimes you will get less.
If it is too good to be legal or above board, then
it probably does not qualify for either
consideration.
You take a big chance dealing with someone unkown,
with equipment 'sight unseen' and shipping
(packaging) left up to persons possibly
unqualified.
You need to realize and understand that possible
risk before you bid.
At a hamfest you are faced with most of the same
problems, but you may be saved the 'faulty
packaging' problem.
I have not made all that many purchases on the
bay, but the ones I have done have been decent
(with one possible exception).
The trick to satisfaction is to keep your bay
purchases below a dollar value that you would not
miss. That means, dont bid 2 grand on a mint
collins rig unless you can see the rig and verify
its condition.

and happy shopping
