[Boatanchors] STUFF

GA, Gene es the group,
(BTW rayfri is rite, anyone mentioning the "E site" shud certainly be
threatened with the use of the Wouff Hong, es multiple times, to be sure
--hi)

Now, I'm all for free enterprise, and all that, but one thing I don't
approve of is what has happened to a lot of gud "stuff" in the past few
years as a result of the "E site" with a lot of great equipment
disappearing into the vast maw of ? and also a lot of terrible fights
and behavior reminincent of cavemen... ok, cave persons, if ya wanna be
politically correct ( I am not a PC person).....

Ok, my humble suggestion... make a list of the "stuff", if possible, and
list it on the lists (Boatanchors, For Sale-Swap, Tube-Swap, MilSurplus,
etc, etc.) depending what it is, and let the hams go for it and make
offers. If you don't like what is being offered for it, then, by all
means, you have the right to turn the offer down, that's the American
Way. If you have the inclination to do a website, then by all means,
set up a site, with pix of the "stuff", there are, BTW, a lot of
programs around which make the creation of a website a breeze, with
pre-designed templates

OPNOTE: I'm not trying to talk down to anyone, If ya wanna write your
own HTML, and do your own design, fine, or, as I am wont to do, " Lift"
the HTML from a site and modify it for my own purposes ( I am
webmaster/preservation officer for the USS America Museum Foundation,
and since I had to take over webmastering suddenly from someone who had
a program which only ran on a Mac, I have been simply modifying HTML
using Netscape Composer, then simply saving the file, and uploading the
new stuff using Cute FTP...)...I have to get a new program which runs on
a PC, and completely redo the site from scratch, but that has no bearing
on the "stuff issue"....

OK...One thing I personally would not recommend is to go the "E site"
route, I just don't like the darn thing, but that is my own opinion,
your mileage may vary, etc.... I feel that ones "junque box" should be
kept in the ham fraternity. Mine contains the legacy of my Father,
Charles R. Moore, W3WET [he let his ticket lapse in the early '60s, as
he was on the road as an engineer all the time], and my aunt, who I
believe you all know, Louise "Lou" Moreau W3WRE/WB6BBO ( yes, I do have
a few of her keys, but we honored her request as to the disposition, and
they still hopefully reside, at W1AW)

At any rate, I feel that this " passing of the flame" is important, even
more so today, since so few of us do homebrewing, hollow state stuff,
or, as can be seen by the horrific FCC proposals, operate (OH THE
HUMANITY) CW..... there is something in the "junque box" which brings
back the memory and feel of much better times, and there is something
special about the smell when one opens a box of old electronics.

I apologize for waxing nostalgic about this, but having a full basement
of "junque" ( my XYL has a slightly different term for it), boxes of
parts, boxes misteriously labeled "Tubes", Teletype machines (many),
Boatanchors (many) as well as various power supplies for said
boatanchors, with draconian notices about "Instant Death upon contact"
and "High Voltage", etc, etc...... bringing a grin to one's face when
one gazes fondly upon the collection, this, also juxtaposed upon one's
Gunsmithing area ( another XYL "nightmare" "Greg, you are NOT going to
make my basement into an industrial plant").... "sure, honey, anything
you say" ( this as the lathe( I got it for free, what the heck can I
say????) is being moved thru the back door --hi--- Hey, I'm retired,
diabled, I can do what I want.....OPNOTE II: this is a row house
basement, if you know what that is) it's attached to a whole bunch of
houses on a street.......

If you can't visualize this, see the following pix
http://www.moorefelines.com/19_APR_05/Greg2005.JPG

Anyhow, I think that the "stuff" should be offered to HAMS first. GA
and set a price, sure, whatever you think it's worth, and let all the
listmembers make counteroffers, etc... I do believe that you will be
able to move all of it without too much problem.

Again, I apologize for the long screed, but I felt it nececessary (sp?)
