Don't know if this posted -- thought of something else.

If you find a problem ground point and unsure of it, you can wire an addtional ground.

John..

Apply some DeOxit to each rivet that is a ground-point and/or try the pointed
stick "tap test" right on them.

If you find that's what it is, in addition to the DeOxit, you can gently
re-stake the problem rivets with a different kind of pointed stick ;-) -- e.g. a
philips screwdriver or a sharp jeweler's screwdriver -- just enough to tighten
them up. If you are going to do this, it probably makes sense to remove the
tubes.

Did you DeOxit the tube sockets? Oxide buildup in the terminals can also cause
oddball problems.

Tighten EVERY machine screw and nut that goes through
the chassis. Over the years these work loose and/or
build up corrosion. Remember that all of the grounds
are made through these connectors.

Just remembered something else -- often mentioned on
the reflectors -- bad ground connection(s).
