Hello All,
I work for the local utility here (Baltimore Gas and Electric). Two
years ago when I installed my station grounds I ask the overhead guys
(linemen and supervisors) for advice. Here is what I was told and/or
learned.
1.) ALL grounds in the house must be the same potential (tied directly
together)
2.) The overhead high voltage system grounds here are at approx 11 ohms
(read with a clamp on meter). This was borrowed from them, not a cheap
meter.
3.) My system (with 8 ground rods 8ft deep and tied together with #4
solid wire) checked in @ 9 ohms. Better than the lines behind my house!
As a result of this extra work, I have not had any ground problems. I
realize this might be a little overkill for a receiving only station, I
just thought I would pass along the knowledge for someone doing station
work. It was stressed to me that if the radio station grounds and the
house grounds were different potential, The station was NOT grounded!73
