How do you figure that?

Wire size doubles per 3 wire gauges, 18, 21, 24, 27  is 2 x 2 x 2 = 8, so 26 has
about 1/8 the cross section of 18. If you look at skin effect, and consider only
surface area, the ratio is Sq. Rt. of 8 (assuming the same stranding)

I would never dream of putting 4 or 5 amps through #26.
